Hi,Background: Just moved into an old terrace house (renovated 5 years ago), which is split across three floors (basement, main and top floor). I live on the main floor.Problem: The downstairs neighbor basement bathroom fan is loud. How loud you say..... Well I can hear the damn thing, from a 6 meter (20 ft) radius from its location on the main floor! Basically you can hear it in my main bedroom, study and bathroom. My desk in the office is right on top of the fan, and even vibrates a little when it is on! To me this does not sound right (i.e hearing an exhaust fan from the floor below in a 6 meter radius!). The sound is a loud hum, no rattling sound. Its loud enough that when it is switched on and you are sleeping, it will wake you up (bed located 5 meters from the fan)Solution: So is the existing fan really cheap, or is it possibly getting too old? Would some sound absorption padding around the fan (fan cavity is just cut into a plasterboard roof) or buy a new one with low Sones rating? They only go for $150 or so.Now I told the downstairs neighbors to me cautious of not leaving it on, because it pisses me off. However they still need to use it, as its the only exhaust fan they have in the tiny basement apartment. It actually doesn't make much of a noise when you are downstairs. So Reddit after searching online, I have not found everything that addresses the problem has anyone else had the same problem? How did you fix it. I thought I would try this for possible solutions before going to the landlord? Thanks. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2w9Huhq
