I'm a Canadian Resident, and in addition to my TSX holdings, I like to invest in companies in the US, China, and Japan. What I want to know is, is it considered better to buy the US version of the foreign stocks, or directly buy on Nikkei or the Shanghai composite.

It seems to me that as I'm currency converting anyway it makes more sense to buy the companies from their respective country, that way my investments are spread between 4-5 currencies instead of 2. I'm curious what fellow Canadians do as well as US residents investing in companies that you can't purchase in US dollars.
