Alright, hopefully this doesn't confuse you guys. Earlier this year my boyfriend claimed me on his taxes because I did not work and was a student the entire year. Once we filed, we learned that I could be claiming my schooling. So we went back and did an amendment, which doubled our return, only to find out weeks later the entire refund was applied to his ex-wife's debt. She has since sent in the required documents to clarify that SHE assumes full responsibility of the entire debt and any payments required for the debt. We called after sending in the documents and were told that the IRS did receive the documents and our case will be evaluated. Now the IRS is stating they never received it. My question now is, can I remove myself from my boyfriend's return and just claim myself or is it too late?
