During my grandparents time people were serious about buying once. Yes it's a consumer world and times have changed, but I recently came across American Gain (first here on BIFL, but I really only payed attention after hearing this NPR story), it inspired me to buy their products just because my grandfather's tools and gear still operate better than the ones I purchase today.
