When budgeting, add a column in your spreadsheet alongside your budget categories. Calculate in that column the number of hours it takes your family to work to earn that budgeted amount in that category. It adds perspective and depth to your budget for you/the family.

It is especially helpful for free-spenders in the family to conceive a cause-and-effect relationship between work and money management.
