I'm still young but I honestly don't get it. I live in a very expensive city.
I'm not a home improvement guy. I can undesrstand a house is great if you're into DIY projects. But that's simply not me. I guess pride of ownership. Definitely there's some social status involved (and tbqh I think this might have motivated some friends) but of course status considerations shouldn't figure into your calculations that much. I HATE dealing with contractors, so having someone else handle repairs is great. What am I missing?
Is most of it the supposed financial benefit? That seems to be 90% of it. The thing is here on the east coast housing prices are astronomical, so its going to be many years until you make that return.
