Need some advice. Hi there, I am a 37 yr old living with husband in his grandparent's cottage for free, located close to our jobs in the Boston metro-west area. We saved $30,000 and are not sure if we should buy a small house now so we can build equity or stay here for a few years and keep saving. We are preparing to adopt our first child spring of 2018, so if we stay we would need to put approx 20K into renovations (new roof and flooring). If we buy, our price range is $200,000, which does not give us much in this area and will most likely need at least an additional $50,000 in repairs/renovations. Another factor is that staying in the cottage will mean I could stay home longer from work with our child when he/she comes. It seems like staying is a no brainer, although we have been here seven years (I originally thought it would two years) and I really want to have a home of our own. Thank you!
