So I have a family-owned Acura RDX that I started developing hip pain from. It's not terrible but 1.5-2hrs a day in the car was not very enjoyable.
I found a cheap vehicle I'm using daily now - a 2000 truck with 175k miles.
Now the Acura just sits around. I like having it for when I do maintenance on the truck, or if the truck ever has an issue I can just jump in the Acura. But is it worth keeping around for this?
I'm contemplating getting a beater car for these "just in case" times. Maybe around $3-4K. My Acura is a 2010 with 75k miles worth maybe 10-12k.
Is it worth buying a used car and going through this process or should I just keep the Acura and accept it will depreciate?
On the one hand it would be nice to invest the $6k profit instead of just letting the Acura depreciate, but I also think of how the Acura should really last me years and years trouble free. While a $3k beater with 150k miles might not have too much life in it long term.
Thoughts?
Currently work in entry level IT making around $45k/yr. this will grow, so I'm not hurting for money. But I don't have too much in saving right now. About 10 grand.
