My wife is dropping out of college to go into the Air Force, she has everything settled for that and is shipping out in November. In July she received a notification that she has a balance she needs to pay for her college tuition, roughly $4000. After looking into it she discovered that her Pell Grant had been taken away because of a discrepancy between her Fasfa for freshman year and the one for sophomore year. Now because of this balance, they aren't letting her drop out for the upcoming semester.

My wife is not on speaking terms with her parents (to the point of my wife spending senior year of high school with her grandparents two states away) and after her mother found out about the issue second hand, she called KHEAA (Kentucky's state financial aid) and told them my wife forged all of the online signatures. The only thing that the financial aid office at the college says is that she's not getting her Grant back and she has to pay the bill to drop out.

For the Air Force you can either choose loan forgiveness or the g.i. bill and since she plans on returning to school and thought she had her past tuition dealt with she chose the g.i. bill. Now she has until Monday to get $4000 to her school or they will not let her dropout therefore charging her for another semester, which seems absolutely ridiculous to me.

TL/DR: Wife's Pell Grant was pulled after the school year was concluded and now we have until Monday to sort it out or give the school $4000 or she can't drop out.
