I posted about being switched over to a 1099 not too long ago, but to sum up the situation now:

In being switched over to an independent contractor, the company increased my check to cover the taxes that I now have to pay without any mentionable increase to my what I actually made before. However, now that my paycheck is several hundred dollars more a month, we no longer qualify for any assistance and we were dropped from our Covered CA plans.

This nicely corresponded to my wife qualifying for insurance through her job, although we had no idea what it would cost until the last day or two of enrollment (also as it's through a religious institution, they have some lovely stipulations that they are allowed to deny, like birth control).

So without any sort of notable wage increase, we have another $700 bill to pay each month and have no idea how we'll manage outside of serious cutbacks in general spending.

Any thoughts or ideas or resources we can look into outside of my search for a new job?
