A coworker told me that he stopped letting his kids use gift cards because he didn't want them to get in the habit of buying things with a card, without really thinking about it as money. He thinks it may lead to frivolous spending when they're older. I thought this was interesting and never thought of it this way before. Are gift cards teaching kids to be credit card consumers?
