Hi All,
I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I'm really at a loss right now.
My girlfriend and I moved in together in late May and could not have been happier. Since then she went away on a 5 week trip for school, had an affair, and came home to tell me she loved him more than she ever loved me and is now gone on another 3 week trip for school.
While she's gone I want to get as much figured out as possible because I can't stay in this relationship or this apartment.
I talked with our leasing office and they informed me that the total fees for early termination would be $10,300 which is a ridiculous amount that I can't afford. But if we paid all of these fees upfront we would get our deposit back ($1500).
To add another twist to this, I don't think my ex/roommate wants to move out because it's a really nice apartment and I pay the lions share of the rent.
It's a year long lease in California
My question is: does anyone know how to get out of a lease and not have to pay all of the termination fees? I could do maybe a little more than half of the fee amount but the total fee amount would put me in a really bad place financially. Is there anyway I can just forfeit the deposit and leave?
Any advice would be super appreciated! And I'll respond to any follow up questions and quickly as I can. Thank you all you wonderful people!
