No, this isn't a joke -- well, I am very much alive.
I applied for a amazon card, but it came back as "no person on cardholder" or something like that, I later applied for a loan with Synchrony bank, but said "Cardholder deceased" I then went to my bank, and they said that when they type in my social security to apply me for a credit card or a starter loan, it defaults to someone else's name.
I'm from the States, and I am 19 years old. I'd like to build credit for a car, but I can't because my social security number says I'm dead. I've talked to my bank to fix it, I've talked multiple times with my local Social Security office (they say I'm fine and it's not their problem), and I've even been on hour long phone calls with companies like TransUnion (but the people barely speak English and end up not helping me).
If anyone could point me in a direction, that would be amazing. I can't really find any other stories like this other than identity theft or typos.
