Hi guys. I don't know if this is the best place to ask this question, if it is more relevant to another subreddit, please direct me there, thanks :)

I'm (19) currently living at home with my mother and younger brother (16).

I'm in the process of looking for full-time work as I put university on hold for the year to pursue a 'career' as a sports writer, which is going rather well.

As I'm unemployed, I receive $250 a fortnight in government benefits as a job seeker. $120 of this a fortnight is going to my mother in the form of rent, which is roughly 45% of what I earn.

I feel like this is a bit too much, and considering we never had a formal agreement over what she would charge me, I've never had the chance to raise my concerns over the amount of money she's taking every 2 weeks. On top of this, I know if I do raise an issue with it, she'll take it very badly and get super angry.

Do I have grounds to have the rent lowered, or should I just suck it up and deal with it until I can afford to move out? Thanks.
