- "It’s not yet profitable, but growth is impressive." High growth is typically heavily subsidized by deep discounts and intro offers.
- "That Amazon sees so much potential in the industry is proof positive that the meal kit represents a new American staple, and not just—pardon the expression—a flash in our collective pots and pans" I wonder how much this industry will grow overall as the years progress will this be the primary way meals are consumed for people who do cook?
- it must focus on the needs, wants, and values of its target audience: mainly millenials. - Oh. So that's who's primarily listening to all those podcasts that are sponsored by blue apron.
-Blue apron really is heavily reliant on providing the experience of new, interesting and quality foods aka taste innovations from organic and ethnic food suppliers
- Taste is king, but for health-conscious millenials, nutrition is the second important consideration.
Interesting issue - People might tire of Blue Apron or realize that (horrors) they can cook a reasonable meal without its help. (Not really a problem, the more that someone else can do for you, the better is the name of the game in this era).
Even doing that as some have pointed out Amazon can easily replicate APRN. So the question is, is there any hope, where is the path to profitability?
