I attended my first semester at a community college this year. Everything started off good and I had exceptional grades. Everything went downhill when I realized I wasn't entitled to the $2400 financial aid that was given to me because my mom filed her taxes incorrectly and refuses to amend them. On the FASFA application, they required verification and the only way the application could be processed is if my parents amended their taxes; which they refused to do so. I ended up getting a full time job to help with the many financial issues I had before this dilemma occurred. I was working 40 hours a week taking 5 classes. I started cutting class so I can get more sleep. I realized when I checked my grades one day I had failed because I was absent too many times. At that point I kind of just lost all motivation and called it quits. I continued to work as I received a WU grade for all the classes I was attending. Now I sit here with a 0.25 GPA and a $250 tuition balance; which will become 2600 after the grant I was rewarded is taken back. I want to start my college education but my current financial barriers are holding me back. Can I succeed without a college degree? How can I work with my situation? I'm 19 years old and I make $1250 a month after taxes( the majority of it goes towards the household and paying bus fare ). I don't want history to repeat itself and have the financial burden my parents did. How can I invest my money to get ahead?
Edit: My parents are living way beyond their means. After rent is paid, there isn't a dime left.
Edit 2: 2600 + an additional 2600 for the next semester when I go back. None of that includes living cost or contributing to the household. Doesn't include books or car fare.
