Hello everyone! After much deliberation, I've decided to make a bed. I can't find one I like, don't have enough money to hire someone, and want to stain it to match the other furniture I've made for my bedroom. Nothing too fancy.I spoke to a family member (who is very skilled, but sometimes offers advice only on what he knows, which doesn't necessarily help people who don't want to do it his way (the only way, according to him). Also spoke to a guy at The Home Depot who has made a bed before and was very helpful.I have looked at plans in detail and can't find exactly what I would like and/or I could do. This is what I am thinking, and have some questions:I would like to keep my metal frame. I saw this "faux" frame, and thought that might be a good way to do it, and make a frame. And frugral, but nice and clean look. I want to still use under the bed as storage that I visit infrequently (I keep luggage and my empty guitar case, but use them once a year or so). I looked at the wood and I think 16-inch wide (so, tall) would be a nice height to cover the metal and some of the boxspring, and my bedding would look clean and tidy overtop.I wanted a single sheet, tall piece of wood as the headboard. Nice and simple. But, plywood is flimsy, and the guy at The Home Depot suggested for cost-savings and a nice look, use the same 16-inch wide wood above, and attach them together horizontally, with two supports on the back (that you won't see). Here are my questions:Should I also do a footboard? For example, instead of one 16-inch wide piece in the front, stack two or three? When I do the headboard, should I start from the bottom, or can I start from just under the top of the mattress?*Will it look unfinished around the edges of the headboard? I don't like that Farmhouse style with the fancy edges. I want it a little more minimal. But I also don't want it to look very DIY-y.Really, I just want to match what I have. I am a beginner and will have help, but live in a small space and will likely be building it elsewhere and going back and forth, so want to make it simple.I also like four-poster and canopy styles; the four-poster may be easy, too, but I am not 100% sure.I also want to keep it inexpensive. I don't mind sanding. Likely I will get all my stuff at The Home Depot, as I don't have many places around here to explore.I do not want to build a whole bed with slats, et cetera.Thank you for any and all input! via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2vAxDfE
