I've been with my SO for quite some time. It's a definite thing that we're going to get married, eventually. There are a few milestones I want to reach in life first; primarily, I do not want to live in an apartment and be married. Nothing against that, it's just something I have in my head. I have seen people get gifts and have as much as $10,000 to $20,000 donated to the wedding. To hell with that IMO, I would rather use it to put towards a down payment on a home. Is that tacky? Has anyone seen this or done this? Thoughts?

Edit: Just to clarify, not getting married. Just thinking hypothetically. :)

A reason why this came up is because my coworker has a "honeyfund." It's almost like a kickstarter, but for her honeymoon. She's requesting everyone donate there instead of getting her gifts. Not a bad idea.
