I am 61 and have just retired last month, after working full time for 40 years as a secretary. Being single, going simpler is easier for me now that it would have been when I was married.
A couple of changes I have made include: selling my car (I live in a town with good transit), getting rid of the cell phone and getting a landline (I have an ipod Touch to text my daughter with), joined the library (but also have a Kindle), started daily walking and started to listen to music more.
I found that I was not taking the time to take proper care of myself when I was working, as I was just too tired at the end of the day to do anything more than watch a couple of tv shows and flop into bed.
My retirement funds are very modest and I am careful with my money. So far, so good! I think I'll really appreciate my retirement when winter hits and I don't have to go out in the northern Alberta winters!
