Hi guys, I'm trying to fix a huge cabinet, which has undergone the test of time, woodworm and shitty maintenance. The woodworm isn't active anymore, I'm 90% sure of that, but I'm going to treat the whole thing with permethrin anyway. The problem I'm having is with the old wax(?) layer. Most of the cabinet is untreated wood, but there are some panels with, I thought, wax on them. I've used a wax-dissolver, but still can't seem to sand the thing properly without my paper filling up with gunk, so I need some help. This is the panel I'm currently working on You can see a little splash of rainwater fucked up the finish, so I'm thought it would be save to assume it wasn't varnished. This happens when I try to sand.Bonuspoints for anyone who determines what kind of wood this is. This is an untreated part.Am I wrong in thinking it's a wax? Do I need to use ammonia or something else instead? Does anyone have an idea. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2v496Qv
