This discussion has occurred before, but it's been a minute since it's been been brought up and people may have forgotten about this or joined this sub recently.

If you are owed money by a company or organization and it can't/doesn't contact you, the money is often held for you by the state.

You can search to see if there are any unclaimed funds being held for you (search in each state you've lived in) and make a claim. I didn't find anything under my own name, but I found about $400 in my mother's name from our old utility company.

The biggest sites to search are missingmoney.com and unclaimed.org. If you want to cut out the middle man and not search for yourself on a random website then you can find your specific state's website by searching: unclaimed property [state(or country) name].

Depending on your particular state or country, you may need to give your name and Social Security Number to search. For some states like mine it's a quick 5-minute online application, but others might require that you print and mail in a form to receive your property.

The state of California alone had $8 Billion in unclaimed property in March of 2017. Even my own humble state, West Virginia, reported over $200 million in unclaimed property in 2016. Bottom line is that this is the easiest way to get some cash back from your state. I know everyone in this sub tries to save money through coupons, vouchers, and all other forms of discounts which is fine and dandy but this is a sweet way to get some extra cash that you can save for future purposes or stretch your monthly budget with. Not utilizing it is like throwing cash away.
