I have a three way switch at the bottom of the stairs that controls the lights at the top. Quite common. This is the electrical setup (http://ift.tt/2w9drVB). The switch is located right above a side table and I plan to replace with a wall sconce that has a pull chain built in (or use a wireless bulb so no switch is required). My plan is to replace a switch in that diagram by connecting all the black and red wires together and then pig tailing the sconce into the black/red and white. This will provide constant power obviously, but the switch at the top of the stairs will presumbly still control the power of the hall lights and the pull chain/wireless bulb will control the sconce. The thing I'm not sure about is if it will provide constant power to the light at the top of the stairs, and I also don't know which switch is which in that diagram. I tried a bit of tracing work but my simple power on/off detector was going off in the box regardless which black wire I touch likely due to interference. I'm not sure if it matters based on what I plan to do. Any help is appreciated. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2xo5v1d
