I have 3 retirement accounts, a ROTH IRA, traditional, and a SEP (from when I was self employed).
My asset allocation calls for a large majority of stocks, which I have mostly in the total stock market index with Vanguard, however I don't have enough money in any one account to cover the investment in full. I can't contribute to my SEP anymore because I have a full time job now and since I am making a good salary I have switched from contributing to a ROTH to a traditional; that's why my money is spread out between several accounts.
Currently, then, I have my entire ROTH account dedicated to admiral shares of the total stock market fund, but also a mixture of ETFs and index funds of the same fund spread out across my other two retirement accounts to hit my allocation. I'm wondering if there is any disadvantage to having the same stock/fund in numerous accounts rather than having it all in one.
