Pics of what I'm talking about: http://ift.tt/2gsi5st bought a house recently and in the basement there is a chimney that is encased in some sort of masonry that I assume protects its integrity. This casing is crumbling and is spreading dust all over. You could practically blow on the stuff and it crumbles. My question: can I remove this casing without damaging the chimney? If I remove the casing is there anything I should do immediately to protect the chimney?I don't have a fireplace so I am under the impression that the chimney is still necessary for structural integrity. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2xPwOkz
