When a family member asks me what I want for my birthday, I often request a board game. I've been proactive about organizing game night with friends and it's been so much fun. A lot of my friends say they haven't played games for years and really enjoyed it and will request that we do it on a regular basis. In the long run, even when I buy myself an occasional game (I just ordered Qwirkle and Pandemic off of Amazon), I find that I save money by not spending money on other stuff, like subpar movies at the theatre just to do something. Food for thought!
