Ok, maybe not that old, and maybe not a full-fledged cat lady... yet!
I currently live in the Philadelphia suburbs, born and raised, and find I am completely unfulfilled here. Life is too fast, people focus too much on money and status, and it's just so loud all the time. I'm looking for suggestions for places that I can go to reinvent myself and completely make over my quality of life. I just want to live a quiet, simple, happy life in a friendly place!
Here are some stats/preferences:
Personal stats: 42 y/o single female, never married, childless, have a dog and a cat
Work: I'm a registered nurse, so I figure I can get work just about anywhere
Politics: left of center
Hobbies: hiking with my dog, reading, music, crafting, photography, volunteering. I'm looking to learn more handicrafts, archery, kayaking, sustainable skills like carpentry and canning, and languages.
Requirements: at least two hours to a major airport with direct flights, or driving distance within 9 hrs of, Philadelphia; friendly vibe; strong community; a good library; low-crime (or safe enough for a woman alone to not have to look over her shoulder all the time); creative arts scene of some sort; pet-friendly; decent cost of living; and beautiful (I'm really done with looking at concrete, strip malls and traffic all day). Weather isn't a concern, although if forced to choose I would want 4 seasons. I'm also not one for big cities.
Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated!
Edit: LIVE a simple life, although I'd love a simple life too
