I come from a background where money was always a serious issue and more of a source of stress than anything. We never really talked about it, we just kind of survived. From my parents, I learned how to pinch pennies for everyday expenses, but nearly nothing about long-term financial choices. As an adult I'm finding that I make more than what my parents did (not a lot per se, but I do have disposable income) and I'm not sure how to proceed. It all just kind of feels overwhelming. I think it would be a little bit easier if I could read something where an author laid out things that are important, things to think about, and basic information on investing, retirement, saving, and the like.

What are some good financial books that are specifically targeted at young people just starting out?
