My lease ends in about two months and I feel like my complex is going to try their hardest to find any reason to keep my security deposit, which is about the same cost as my rent itself (500 dollars).
Now, as a working college student (who doesn't even have planned the next place I will be living), I want to do whatever I can to get it back. It could pay the next security deposit on a apartment if I can afford one.
I want to know what your experiences are with an ending lease and wanting you deposit back. Were there any weird or unexpected charges you were given? How much did you clean the apartment before moving out? Did you hide any pets, and how did you make sure there wasn't any trace of them when you left?
Also, I guess I will be charged if I don't hire a professional carpet cleaning company to come in and get a receipt for it. Any useful tips on this?
