A few years (5-6)back I had a few bucks laying dormant and came to /r/investing for advice and to see what I could learn from lurcking. Now I'll admit, it was likely not the wisest way to choose stocks (I didn;t do much research other than reading threads) , but it worked out ok. I bought Tesla, Apple , CAT, some Canadian banks and more - Tesla did well, I had apple pre spilt and sold after for a decent return, it all did well other than a small few, and all in a relatively short time (less than 3 years) I think CAT/Finning was my only loser

I needed to sell and realize some of the gains to enter buy into a small business opportunity which has so far gone better than I ever could have expected.

So, I am back now, ready to invest. 42 years old. Investing for the long term - 15-30 years. I am hoping to be smarter than I was last time (although hopefully as lucky or even luckier) and know what I'm doing instead of following the herd. Any starter kit tips for "getting started" ?

ps - thanks /r/investing! I wouldn't be where I am today without your guys and gal's help and hope to do it even better this go around, in it for the long haul this time

edit - i'm assuming the answer is "read the sidebar" but wanted to say thanks anyway and ask while i was at it
