I am a Navy Vet, currently employed at the same company for 2 years and recently got my bachelors in Electronic Engineering. I work as a Maintenance Technician and the company I work for has a equipment engineering department and there is an entry level position open that I qualify for. But, my managers have been trying to get me to take a different lower level position as a shift engineer instead. This position will give me the training that i need to move forward to the equipment engineering position but I will be losing about 10K a year from my current job. Also the schedule conflicts with my wife's and that means we will need to put our daughter in daycare. Yet on the other hand if i can make it thru i could be making 20-30k or more than i make now. My biggest concern is I have not talked to the head engineer and see what he wants, plus there is no guarantee that i will even get to move up. (current position hours are Wednesday thru Saturday 6pm-6am, shift engineer would be sunday thru tuesday 6am - 6pm)
Side note, I recently interviewed for a different company and they are willing to pay me what i make now, but i have to work more hours. However it is in a type of job I am more accustomed to. And there is the same type of advancement there as well. Should i take that job, instead of staying in my current job(which i don't like)
