Hi PF

I read this sub very thoroughly for information regarding buying a used car prior and I got one recently.

I am 24/no kids/male so I pretty much just wanted a cheap car to commute.

I looked only at websites to start and only Certified Pre Owned. I knew my price range from the start, 10-15k. Then scheduled to test drive at all places.

I found a KIA Forte 2014 with 19,000 miles on sale for 9,995$. I go there, test drive, then comes the money part. He sets down a piece of paper with the price of 13,995$ for the car. I bring up the ad and he says he doesn't know what that ad is but there's no way they'd do that at this dealership. I showed him the ad and he's like oh okay fair enough.

About 45 minutes later he comes back, this time car price 10,995$. Again I say that is not 9,995$. He agreed and then we talked about down payment.

The monthly payment chart showed I could leave today for only 330$ a month for 60 months. That's like 20,000$ I told him and he said there might've been a mistake with the math. This was with interest at 15%. (I have okay credit.)

Anywho similar games were played for almost 7 hours before he brought the interest to 6%, and adjusted the price to 9,995$.

At this point I said I could pay in full and wrote the check.

Ended up getting a decent car for a decent price. Only took 7 hours.

Edit: I understand I should be more forward with car buying in the future. Definite learning experience

TL ; DR: I was bait and switched right away a dealership and after lots of bs I got the price I wanted.
