Hello /r/investing,

I've been lurking on this sub for a while and doing some reading. I'm facing one problem though - most of the things here relate to the US market/system.

What I'm getting at is that there are things like tax advantaged accounts (401k and Roth IRAs) and low-commission funds (like Vanguard) that I'm interested in.

My question is - how do I find the Australian equivalent of all this? Where can I look into the sorts of taxes etc. I'd be up against if I were to trade on the Aussie market? Can I trade on the American market from here? Or have a mix of both markets?

In case it's needed I'm an 18 y.o fresh to the investing world. I live at home with $400 income every fortnight. My fixed expenses are phone bill and gym membership - $40 and $50 respectively. The rest of the money is disposable income usually spent on food/recreation. I'm willing to take risky investments as I'd like some short-term gains for the meantime.
