I have 50mbps internet. Well, in all honesty, it's only 35mbps, because I've never gotten the full 50. They are kicking that up to 100mbps now, but the price is going up too.

I spend way too much time streaming t.v. shows when I should be working, or playing on Reddit or downloading ebooks I've never read. I wouldn't do that if it wasn't so fast and easy.

I've thought about cutting out my internet at home, but I work online, so I really can't do that. But today, I bit the bullet and decided to downgrade to the cable company's lowest tier at 5 mbps. Since I live alone, this will allow me to still work and surf, but it's going to be much slower on streaming and downloading, so I won't be doing those as much.

My hope is that I will be able to get more actual work done now. I live in a densely populated area close to a huge commercial area, so if I need faster internet, I can walk 5 blocks to an area where there are 5 places that have free wifi within a 3-block area. There must be 20 places within a mile of my house in multiple directions, plus the public library is just a short bus ride away.

This is going to save me about $25 a month, which is going into savings. I really feel like this is a good move for me that will get me off the computer more and busy doing more productive things.
