My aunt that raised me and my four siblings and acted as the primary caregiver for my 18 y.o. sister died suddenly in February. She was taken to the hospital on a Sunday and died the following Thursday - so yes, very sudden. There was no plan if this were to happen so my family. In my parents' house it is my mother who suffered from a stroke is incapacitated in a wheelchair, my older brother who is a 27 y.o. drug and alcohol addict, my 19 y.o. brother who's just trying to be a 19 y.o., and my dad who is working full time while trying to take care of my mom, sister, and brothers. Now, this is obviously a less-than-ideal situation. With that, I want to try to be able to get a 2 br apartment where I can have my sister come live with me. The issue with that is I can hardly afford to live on my own. I work in an expensive area in Southern California and currently reside in one of the cheapest areas around that is still safe.

My question is: does anybody have any advice on where I should start in terms of financial assistance? I am already in contact with her regional center but they truthfully haven't been that great of a help. I have plans to file for conservatorship as suggested by her regional center. However, this still doesn't lead me to where I need to go to next. Is there a program that provides government assistance that I should start with? Really, any advice at this point is helpful.

TL;DR I am 25 F Sister is 18 F with Down Syndrome How do I go about getting the appropriate finances for her to live with me?
