We started focusing on paying off our debt in December of 2015 and today we made our final payment. Our home escrow will be fully funded by September 1st and at that point we will have roughly $4000 a month to start investing!! I'm 36 and I never thought financial peace would ever be close to an option and then we learned how to handle money and made a plan.
Our debt at the beginning of our plan was 55K and our goal, through a debt snowball, was to payoff everything by the end of July 2017. in that 2.5 years we incurred an extra 15K in debts (Air conditioning replacement, car repairs, unexpected rental property remodel costs, etc.) and still took a family vacation to Jamaica and to Disney World.
We haven't argued about money since December of 2014 and if you can imagine, our marriage has been so much better off. We are on the same page with the same goals and life is looking up so much.
Man, I wish everyone would experience this.
