If this isn't the norm or I have an inaccurate point of view please correct me. This is based on my personal experiences and what I've read.

I was taught growing up that there is merit to showing loyalty to a company for as long as possible (ideally your whole career or a decent portion of it) and that you would in turn be rewarded in the long run. I hear more and more that it's now more common to job hop and have even read that some career "experts" recommend it. Rather than plateauing and waiting for a promotion, it's better to move to other companies for a higher salary or position every couple years.

What are your thoughts, whether this change is real or not, and what is the better career option?
