I will finally be eligible for my first 401k next month, but I was disappointed to see the options I have on my company's plan. I have done some research on pf and am trying to decide 1) how much to put into my 401k and 2) which stock options to choose from.
As background, I have $45,000 in school loans at about 6% interest and have maxed out my Vanguard target date IRA the past couple years. My company will put in $250 for the first $1000 invested in the 401k. However, the options almost all have gross ER's over 1%. I'm going back and forth between only putting $1,000 in and paying off more of my loans, or putting in enough to have 15% of my salary saved for retirement this year.
Here's the plan.
I was thinking:
- 21% to AmFds EuroPacfc Gr R3
- 4% to Sntnl Sm Co A
- 7% to FidAdv Levr Co Stk A
- 38% to S&P 500
- 25% to PIMCO Ttl Rtn A
- 5% to NW GOc Mny Mkt Inv
But I'm completely inexperienced. Please help!
