Today had me thinking of the one favorite thing we did to our home.

During the times of the year (hot hot muggy death and brr brr arctic freezing) that would normally keep our unit running round-the-clock in other places we've lived trying to keep up, I am very thankful that we decided to invest in the spray foam insulation in the attic and the basement while we had the walls down during our brief renovation before moving into our current home. It has made such a difference in the comfort level on the second floor (no sweltering heat up there in the summer), the basement (no damp basement) and in the house's ability to maintain temperature overall. A little too well on some days. When I turn everything off to let the house to cool down/warm up it takes multiple hours for the temperature to drop/rise on its own without the air on.

If you're doing any sort of work to your home and have the access and the budget to invest in spray foam insulation, I highly recommend doing so. It's an investment that will pay dividends for years to come in the way of greater comfort and lower utility bills.
