Hi everyone,So I've been planning on building an arcade lightgun with a recoil effect for quite a long time. After weighing all choices, the current plan is to use the solenoid recoil kit sold by Ultimarc combined with either an arcade cabinet TC2 gun or a Real Arcade Gun (can still be found on ebay) to add a blowback effect. Now this solution requires an extra block for the solenoid power supply. So I've been thinking, hell, if I need an extra block anyway, wouldn't a pneumatic solution be possible ?So I'm here to ask this to any technical tinkerer today. Would it be possible to simulate a recoil+blowback effect using a portable air compressor (portable as in carriable, not battery powered) and a pneumatic piston ? Is a small enough piston existing ? Does it pack enough punch (it must be strong with a short travel time) ? Will the air compressor send enough air ?Another solution I found was something developed initially for the army called mock recoil using electromagnets and a weighted metal piece sliding on a rail. From the video the kick looks pretty realistic, but I can't see what kind of power supply they use for this. Seems to me a safe 36v power supply wouldn't be enough to power such a strong electro magnet is it ?Thanks in advance for reading and answering ;) via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2sDJHf8
