So I started as a rep for this company and after 17 mos or so and great performance I was promoted and moved my family across the country to get closer to family. I took a pretty big paycut for this promotion (roughly 13K). My base was 42.8K and my raise for my last year was roughly 1K.

I was able to ghost an interview today with my manager with an external candidate. Base starting out at 48K with same commission structure.

I'd think you'd pay internal transfers more personally but this kind of pisses me off. 4K start may not seem like much but with very structured raises that could be 4K in salary every year for 5, 10, 20 years (I do like the company).

What is the play? I do feel comfortable bringing it up with my manager so that seems like the first and most logical step. I've already talked to him about not making enough money and having to get a 2nd job (avoided the 2nd job but just finding a side hustle). When that doesn't go as planned my thought process was to look to transferring laterally to a new center that is even closer to my home as a power play of sorts. They love me at this center and I honestly don't think they can afford to lose me. The turnover for new sups here over the last year has been crazy high.

TLDR; Received promotion and not getting paid as much as an external hire for same position.
