Hi all,

I am a high school student from Bahrain hailing from a low middle class-poor background (dad makes around $25k/year, most of which goes into my education at a private school and mom doesn't work). My dream is to study medicine and live abroad (at least just study for now), however, economic opportunities aren't presenting themselves and so I would like to know the best course of actions I should take in my situation. How can I achieve my goal of studying abroad in the West cheaply?

To give you a little background: my country doesn't offer any viable scholarship opportunities abroad. I was not able to acquire the only real scholarship opportunity abroad due to extreme competition as it's only awarded to 10 Bahrainis each year. The two or three other scholarship opportunities for studying abroad are pretty much only gained through nepotistic connections, which I don't have.

Also, I'm an IB student who's planning on applying to medical universities by the beginning of the next school school year. I can probably afford to enroll in universities located in nearby Arab countries such as Egypt or Jordan, but I would like to study in the West for a more enriching and different experience, and hopefully the chance to settle down in the West. If you guys could help me find universities that offer scholarships to international students, please inform me.

I have been thinking about taking a loan (there are only two banks in Bahrain that offer student loans). This is the website of one of them which has their requirements displayed on their website, please tell me what you think and whether it sounds like a good deal: http://ift.tt/2u2p2lB

Please give me your insight, fellow Redditors.
