Hi everyone. First post here because I don't know where else to go. Six months ago I spit out $800 for a nice older version of the Macbook Air because I needed a good one for my industry as a journalist/photographer/videographer.

Then last week I arrived at JFK airport and as soon as my plane landed I got a call from a family member with some very bad news and left the plane while talking on the phone, completely engrossed in the conversation and left my laptop. I was so caught up in the sudden very distressing issue in my life that I didn't notice I had left it until the next day.

Anyway, I feel sick to my stomach now as I don't have money to buy a new one (making very low pay as a reporter in NYC to follow my dreams) but really need one to keep advancing at my job. My work won't help pay for a new one since I have a work computer. But I know to really make it in my industry, I need to be able to work on my side projects (blog, photo editing, book, applying to new jobs, research, etc) and work projects off the job.

I feel so sick about this bc it was brand new and especially because it's my fault. And I spent so much time researching it and saving up for it. And the worst part? It had the beginnings of a book I was working on that I can't get back now. I try not to think about that part because what's done is done.

Anyone have any advice? Is there anything more I can do to get it back? I have contacted the airline and filled out a lost item report.

P.S. When I was being very frugal, I bought a Google chromebook in college for just $100 but those are simply not fast enough or high functioning enough for anything past basic browsing. But I'm open to other suggestions.
