I got a medical bill of $1350 after insurance for an ankle surgery (I already paid $1000 pre-op). I simply emailed the billing department asking if I can get any discount on my bill and 5 minutes later I got reply for a 20% discount.
For a couple minutes of my time I was able to save $270. The lesson is always negotiate even if your insurance is taking care of most of the bill. Every dollar counts and never afraid to ask.
