Debt collector cleaned out checking and savings for event from 1997. They seem to have followed what they needed to keep it going g as civil matter till last Thursday when they took every penny we had. Event was nephew took wife's car and hit another car in a parking lot then gave wrong name , the name of my wife's deceased son which is what put us on the hook . They haven't served any legal paperwork to us prior to taking the money,ie. serving a summons etc. Despite us still living in the same house. Have already opened new bank acct without her on it as I am not named in the paperwork nor was my SS # listed. Trying to get pro bono legal help as wife is disabled and has no income but is slow process . We live in Washington state . What's next? They ran the total up to a little over 8k and got a little over 1600 out of checking and savings combined.
