Some time ago on this sub I heard about these good will deletion letters you can write to creditors to ask them to stop reporting a negative collections out of the kindness of their hearts. (This is different than disputing). Finally after putting it off, I sent it in. This particular collection is the only one I've ever had and it wasn't even for much. It happened as a result of a major misunderstanding I had with a billing cycle. Anyway once it went to collections and I found out I paid it immediately and now for the last 5 years it's been there bothering me as it's the only blemish on an otherwise great credit history. Well I'm happy to report it worked! I checked my report and it is gone! So this is definitely worth a shot. Particularly if you have something like mine where it really was an honest mistake on my part, not a lack of ability to pay and you tell them your learned your lesson and make sure it doesn't happen again.

I basically just explained I missed the payment because of some confusion and my lack of follow up, it unfortunately went to collections, and I then paid immediately. My payment history ever since has always been on time and never had any further issues. I begged for mercy and requested it be removed early and they did!

Ive heard that the longer the collection is on your report for, the less impact it has as time goes on, but my credit score jumped a lot! There's other factors that have helped it as well, but I think this certainly helped. And it just makes me happy that it's gone because it annoyed me that I have a stellar history and this was the only thing wrong.
