I recently moved into an old farm house with really hard water. It stains everything orange. Clothes, the bathtub, etc. The elderly lady that has been living here her whole life here just buys bottled water, but I was wondering if there are cheaper and better environmental options? Obviously I cannot afford a water softening system as living here is only temporary. I've been buying water jugs at the grocery store and recycling the jugs but I still feel bad. Brita filters don't work and the bottom of the container just ends up with rust at the bottom (gross). I also drink a lot of water because I work at an orchard in the sun all day.
Suggestions?
