I currently live with 4 people including myself in an apartment in Nashville, TN, and 2 of my roommates and our cosigner will be leaving our year long lease when our lease expires. When it expires, the 2 of us staying will be "substituting" our 2 roommates and cosigner for other roommates and another cosigner.
I've spoke to the apartment office, and they said it's $500 per person to update our lease when we renew. That's $1500, which is unreasonable, because it is less than half the price to start a brand new lease. Furthermore, they are increasing our rent slightly, so they are going to have to update the lease anyway.
Is this accurate? I refuse to pay this, and I would like advice on whether it would be wiser to continue arguing/negotiating with the leasing office or to spend my time searching for a new place to live.
Thanks
