Throw away; coworkers are familiar with my reddit account.

Background: I work for a very large global company that has a very structured promotion and merit system. Currently my salary is ~78k and I want to position my manager into setting me up for over 100k by spring 2020.
I know my manager doesn't want to give salary bumps outside of reviews (when he does the next review is usually a smaller than typical bump to compensate, which is pretty annoying)
Salary bumps I expect to get are 3x 3% merit increases (2018-2020) and two promotions of ~5% each.
This will potentially set me up to be at ~93.5k in 2020, which is below market value.
Quite a few very good employees have left because of this exact scenario.

The plan:

  • Ask for a performance review to review my value to the company (LPT source)
  • List off all the valuable things I have contributed in my time here (2.5years) and all the very challenging projects that got thrown at me because of short schedules.
  • Make clear my goal of having a 100k+ salary after merit in 2020
  • Ask about my upcoming promotion (which I know I will get this year) and see if I can't get a larger bump than typical
  • Let my manager know that I want both of us to be happy with this and that I will continue to put forth effort just as I have since I started working here.

Hopefully this will give him confidence/reassurance that I'm not searching for another job and give me a feeling of being valued beyond a typical role at this company (which I'm definitely doing).

What do you think r/pf? Good idea or bad? Let me know what you think!

TL;DR: instead of just asking for a raise I want to set a plan to get to a certain salary by 2020. Allowing me to stay at a company I enjoy working for and being happy with my compensation.
