I have always been told to invest in a more risky portfolio while I am young, and as I age convert into to safer more consistent investments (to maintain the wealth that i have already gained). I am assuming that the reason for is because the younger I am the more time for that risk to pay off. But, doesn't that also give me more time for these risky investments to fail? I would think that if i wanted the most money I would invest safely my whole life or wait and be risky towards my later years.
So why be risky just because I am young or be safe because i am old?
