Hi,
im from Germany and first of all im sorry for my bad english (lol).
I've got a question: Everytime i ready things about salaries in this subreddit i question myself "What do i do wrong?!".
I am a trained banker and made € 28K ($ 31K) a year, which was a pretty good income compared to other friends i knew. After taxes its € 20K ($ 22k), so if I read people writing about their own very low wages being >35k im pretty confused. Im now graduating to become a teacher (when you are a teacher in germany you are known to have a very good income, cause you have to do less taxes and stuff because you are an pretty high ranked official). As a Teacher you get paid around 35K€ net, which is 39k$. If you have this anmount of net income, you are not rich, but thats a very, very good income (in germany) - i know that, because at my job in the bank ive seen ALL the salaries in my town (roughly around 98% of the towns inhabitants were our costumers). Thats a reason why i decided to become a teacher. Now i read things here like "dude, i didnt learn any job, just graduated, and they offer me a job for ONLY 40K$?!? WHY?!!" or things like "yeee i just graduated and got my 75$k job and paid off my student loan in 1 year".
Can someone please explain to me: Why is that? Why are your salaries so fking high?
EDIT: Didnt expect that many answers. Thank you guys!
EDIT: One question came up to my head: How many free days do you have by law? In germany its 24 per year, but usually most people got around 30 days. Someone mentioned we got far more holidays. #
...... googled by myself. Now i get everything.
